The 2010 Sony World Photography Awards are open for entries from today, Monday 1 June 2009. With categories for both professional and amateur photographers, the Sony World Photography Awards is one of the world’s largest photographic events. The awards are a platform for both established and emerging photographers and in 2009 the competition attracted over 60,000 entrants from 139 different countries.

Panasonic Launches SDHC Memory Cards with Class 10 Speed Specification

Panasonic is pleased to announce that it will launch new SDHC Memory Cards with Class 10 speed specification in Europe and other markets from the end of May, 2009. Class 10 is a new speed specification standardized by SD Card Association as part of SD Card Specification Ver.3.0 to meet the requirement for higher resolution consecutive shooting and large-sized high definition video shooting.

Panasonic Accessories for Lumix G Micro System Announced

Panasonic has announced two new mount adaptors, the M Mount Adaptor DMW-MA2M and R Mount Adaptor DMW-MA3R, to further enhance the photographic experience with cameras from the Lumix G Micro System. The M Mount Adaptor and R Mount Adaptor are developed under support of Leica Camera AG, making it possible to attach Leica M lenses (DMW-MA2M) or R lenses (DMW-MA3R) on DMC-G1 and DMC-GH1. Festimage 2009

The 2009 edition of Festimage – International Image Festival will begin on 8 April; it is as of this date that contestants may send in their entries, with the contest lasting until 14 May. The festival will include two competitions – with the Official Prize and the People’s Choice Prize up for grabs. The former, which will include 9.750,00 euros in prize money to be distributed among the top five winners, shall be voted on by an international panel. The latter, which will award 1.000,00 euros to the winner, is to be voted on by the public, via the organizers’ website (www.festimage.org).

Winner of the Campaign Award announced

Sarah Ahmad, a photographer from Rawalpindi in Pakistan, is the winner of the Campaign Award. Introduced this year, as part of the Sony World Photography Awards, the competition created a brief for amateur photographers to answer and it sought out one image which unites a global obsession with football and a passion for photography. The winning image of a woman preparing a meal, with one foot placed on a football, is simply titled: ‘The Love of the Game: a cook, cleaner, mother….and an attacking midfielder.’
